School pupils in the The Fens were given a peek into the varied world of freight transport when Knowles Logistics turned up to give them a lesson in haulage.
Representatives from the company met with students during a careers fair at Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech and shown the various routes into a life in logistics.
The Knowles team tasked pairs of school kids with retrieving a pallet of sweets using a remote-controlled HGV and forklift truck to load the freight as quickly as possible.
MD Alex Knowles said: “It was great to see so many young people showing real curiosity about how the sector operates and the skills it relies on.
“Thank you to Thomas Clarkson Academy for welcoming us and to all the students for their enthusiasm and engagement. It’s inspiring to see the next generation taking an interest in the future of logistics.”
The event formed part of a campaign by the firm to build stronger links with local schools and raise awareness of the diverse opportunities within logistics.
The haulier also took the opportunity to promote road safety at the nearby Thomas Eaton Primary Academy, whose staff regularly reinforce road safety messages for children walking or cycling to and from school.
Knowles Logistics donated road signs featuring illustrations of young children and carrying key messages such as ‘Slow down’ and ‘Park responsibly’, serving as a visual reminder for motorists to take extra care near the school.

“As a leading logistics provider in the region, we have a duty of care to uphold the highest standards of safety – not only within our own operations, but out on the roads where our vehicles operate every day,” added Knowles.
