Young people are being encouraged to see apprenticeships as “cheat codes” to building a successful career, combining technical skills, hands-on experience and a chance to “earn while you learn”.
As hundreds of thousands of students receive their GCSE results, Logistics UK said apprenticeships offered benefits for employers and employees alike, and provided a fast-track route into an essential and dynamic industry.
Chief executive Ben Fletcher said a job combined with structured study offered a clear pathway into employment: “Logistics apprenticeships, specifically, provide a direct route into an industry that keeps the UK economy moving,” he said.
“Increasingly, jobs in our industry use technology and innovation, with plenty of different career paths to explore including transport planning, fleet engineering, warehouse operations, data analysis, automation and emerging green technologies.
“If the candidate is interested in problem-solving, technology, engineering, business management or hands-on operational roles, there is an apprenticeship that can provide a route into a rewarding and long-term career.”
He added: “Since logistics is an industry that underpins all the activity in the economy, doing an apprenticeship now is a cheat code that will enable candidates to take a step into a long-term career that is futureproof.”
Logistics UK’s apprenticeships range from Level 2 traffic coordinators to Level 5 operations managers and the business group said they were designed to strengthen capability, build confidence and develop strategic thinking.
