The logistics sector is offering strong earning potential and rapid career progression for new entrants, according to Generation Logistics, which is showcasing success stories to attract fresh talent into the industry.

The awareness campaign has highlighted the career of Rebecca Smith, now a senior project manager at DP World, as an example of how graduates can quickly climb the ranks.
Smith entered the sector through a graduate scheme and has nearly tripled her salary in under a decade, moving from an entry-level role into a senior position overseeing major infrastructure and customer projects.
Speaking about her role, Smith said the variety and scale of work had been key to her progression: “No two days are the same. I am responsible for everything from customer expansions to brand new site builds, ensuring that budget, timeline, and scope are perfectly aligned.”
Her career path reflects the varied entry routes into logistics. After studying business management at Leeds Beckett University, she joined a graduate programme with DHL, gaining operational experience as a warehouse supervisor before moving into performance management and project delivery roles. She later spent time with Maersk before joining DP World.
One of her standout achievements includes leading the development of a 600,000 sq ft logistics site in the north of England, overseeing build, fit-out and implementation for a customer operation handling 50,000 pallet spaces.
Smith said the role requires both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills: “You have to stay calm under pressure and be able to identify key actions quickly to keep things moving,” she explained.
She also encouraged new entrants to the sector to be proactive: “Be resilient. There are long and difficult days, but they are worth it because there is always something new or exciting to focus on.”
Generation Logistics programme director Bethany Windsor said the example demonstrates the scale of opportunity available: “Rebecca’s story іs a fantastic example оf the high-level professional career paths available within logistics. It demonstrates that for graduates entering the sector, the ceiling for progression and earning potential іs incredibly high.
“Her transition from the warehouse floor tо managing multi-million-pound infrastructure projects at DP World highlights that logistics іs a sector built оn innovation, leadership, and scale. We hope her success inspires the next generation оf talent tо see logistics as the dynamic, lucrative profession іt truly is.”
The campaign is aiming to tackle ongoing skills shortages by promoting logistics as a long-term career choice, highlighting roles that span operations, technology and major infrastructure delivery.
