An insulation supplier based in Sheffield and Birmingham has replaced two of its diesel trucks with Volvo FE Electric 6x2s as part of its strategy to reduce carbon emissions.

Galaxy Insulation and Dry Lining said the business was already carbon neutral but it needed to decarbonise its fleet and the new Volvo rigids would make an immediate impact on its footprint as well as extending environmental benefits of electric trucking to its customers.

The FE Electrics were specified with the maximum four batteries and offer an approximate driving range of 190km, with the trucks able to be recharged in 2.3 hours.

Wayne Allen, Galaxy’s northern compliance manager, said: “With these vehicles, we wanted to underline that it is not just London that is embracing electric mobility.

“The Volvo team has worked tirelessly to fully evaluate how and where these electric trucks can thrive in our fleet and we can’t wait to start putting them to work.

“The drivers have already commented on just how smooth and enjoyable the trucks are to operate – they are delivering a far more relaxing and peaceful drive than the diesel models they replaced!”

The FEs are expected to work five days a week and are anticipated to be on the fleet for five years.
