Specialist provider of ‘goods not for resale’ Bunzl Retail Supplies turned to TIP Group for a major fleet upgrade, with a large number of trucks and trailers entering into service.
Under the long-term hire arrangement, TIP supplied brand new SDC trailers, as well as a mix of DAF XFs and 12-tonne and 18-tonne rigids.
The trailers are of tri-axle and tandem axle configuration and are fitted with tuck-under tail lifts.
Both trailers and trucks are supplied with new Bunzl Retail branding and have maintenance, repair and compliance management services delivered by TIP.
It also fully refurbished a number of the company’s box vans and double deck curtainsiders to give them a second life and support its sustainability strategy.
TIP estimated that the refurbishment of 17 of Bunzl’s box van trailers saved approximately 180 tCO2e and the refurbishment of 13 of their double deck curtainsider trailers saved 169 tCO2e in manufacturing from new avoidance emissions.
Craig Duddle, Bunzl logistics fleet and compliance manager, said: “We are continuously looking at ways that we can reduce our carbon footprint and, as part of our sustainability journey, we really wanted to explore having some of our trailers refurbished to see how we might extend their useful life.
“TIP’s capability for fully refurbishing trailers, in addition to providing brand new trailers and trucks, was significant for us.”
