Rochdale’s Barnes Logistics has snapped up Ningbo Walking Floors, heralding its move into environmental haulage.

The company said it was focused on growth after acquiring the Wrexham-based specialist haulier, which will see all of the employees move over to its new owners and its 40-strong fleet form Barnes’ new environmental division.

The haulier said the deal would increase its annual turnover by 75% to over £20m

Barnes Group CEO Chris Barnes said: “This is a significant acquisition and one with great potential.

“Ningbo has experienced rapid growth since it was formed in 2022. We aim to guide it to the next level by integrating it within the Barnes Group as our new environmental division, in which it will share our award-winning culture and practices.”

Serving a nationwide client base, Barnes Environmental’s trailers feature hydraulically-powered slat floors. Able to gradually unload bulk materials without needing the trailer to tip, they serve to transport waste and recyclable materials.

The purchase expands Barnes’ fleet to more than 120 vehicles, supporting its transport and logistics services throughout the UK.

In addition to its Rochdale HQ, it operates lorries out of sites at Nantwich, Coventry and Houghton-Le-Spring.

Founded by Chris Barnes in 2005, its range of services includes contract logistics, overnight transport and hazardous goods.
