Dozens of Lincolnshire residents are being offered the opportunity to be trained up as HGV drivers after a local college secured funding.
Lincoln College said it would create a “pipeline of job-ready” candidates to hauliers in the region and help combat a skills shortage.
It has teamed up with the RHA and Inspire Education Group to deliver the training to 60 would-be professional drivers under the ‘Drive 2 Work’ initiative.
The programme will support candidates through the medical, theory and practical driving tests, along with preparation for employment.
Lincoln College said the logistics sector was fundamental to the county and its flexible and inclusive programme would ensure a range of learning opportunities; including face-to-face, online and blended learning that was employer-led, with a focus on how the logistics industry can be more environmentally and sustainably aware.
Mark Taylor, RHA head of training and sales, England and Wales, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Lincoln College to help recruit and train new HGV drivers.
“This programme will offer local people the chance to kick start a highly skilled career for themselves in our industry.
“Tackling the HGV driver shortage is a tough challenge but it’s one of our top priorities. We’re looking forward to helping local firms get new people behind the wheel.”
