Tesco has sealed a deal with EO Charging which will see it power Tesco’s UK home delivery fleet of electric vans.
The move is part of Tesco’s plan to have a fully electric delivery vehicle fleet by the end of 2028.
This year, the business has already rolled out 30 electric vans, with plans in place for a further 150 in 2022.
EO Charging designs and manufactures EV charging stations and cloud-based charge-point management software for fleets, and provides installation services and operations and maintenance services across its fleet customer base.
As part of the first phase of its deal with Tesco to provide an end-to-end electrification programme, EO Charging will supply more than 200 AC fast chargers and 5 DC rapid chargers across five sites.
The charging points will be installed at two sites in Glasgow, as well as at three sites in Lakeside, Oxford, and Enfield. These will deliver both day-to-day charging requirements as well as emergency cover in case of short turn-around times required for vehicles.
EO Charging, which also has electrification deals with Amazon DHL, Go-Ahead and Uber, will also provide Tesco with upfront consultation to charging hardware, around the clock support, 365 days a year, maintenance and an onsite service level agreement for mission critical charging infrastructure.
Tesco’s charging infrastructure will be managed by EO Cloud which the charging company said is dedicated depot software that combines charge scheduling, site load management, vehicle telematics integration and energy data to reduce infrastructure installation costs and optimize fuel cost per vehicle.
