Amazon intends to boost its UK workforce by a third to 40,000 by the end of the year as its three new state-of-the-art fulfilment centres start operations.
The online retail giant said it had already recruited 3,000 permanent roles this year and a further 7,000 would follow by the end of 2020.
The jobs include staff who will pick, pack and ship customer orders, as well as engineers, graduates, HR and IT professionals and finance specialists.
In addition, the company said it had begun recruiting more than 20,000 seasonal positions across the UK ahead of the festive period.

In a statement, Amazon said the centre of its job creation programme were its fulfilment centres in Darlington, Durham and Sutton-in-Ashfield, all of which will be in operation by the Autumn with each creating more than 1,000 new roles.
It said pay starts at a minimum of £10.50 per hour in the London area and £9.50 per hour in other parts of the UK for all full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal roles.

Business Secretary, Alok Sharma said: “While this has been a challenging time for many businesses, it is hugely encouraging to see Amazon creating 10,000 jobs in the UK this year.
“This is not only great news for those looking for a new job, but also a clear vote of confidence in the UK economy as we build back better from the pandemic.”
