Continuing to drive progress in next-generation transport solutions, Volvo Trucks autonomous, electric and connected vehicle – Vera – made its UK début at the recent Freight in the City Expo.
Designed for regular and repetitive tasks, Vera is controlled via a central hub which monitors parameters such as vehicle location, load and battery charge.
This data is used to ensure that the overall fleet logistics as well as goods and vehicle movements are as efficient as possible.
The system is intended for use within areas characterised by short distances, large cargo volumes and high delivery precision.
A collaboration with DFDS will see Vera’s first assignment, enabling a connected system for a continuous flow of goods, from a logistics centre to an APM Terminals port facility in Gothenburg.
This collaboration is a step towards implementing Vera in a real transport project, on pre-defined public roads in an industrial area, and is an ideal setting to further develop her potential for other similar operations.
