Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]
Tesco has re-awarded the contract to run its UK distribution centre (DC) transport operations to Eddie Stobart.
Eddie Stobart and the Unite union could be heading to arbitration service Acas to end the row over drivers’ jobs at Tesco’s Doncaster DC. The move comes after a 72-hour walkout last week by 180 Unite driver members facing redundancy at the DC. This included a demo outside a Tesco store in Westminster.
