Chilled food specialist Fowler Welch and poultry producer Bernard Matthews have extended their long-term partnership with additional services and volume. Norwich-based Bernard Matthews has committed to a new two-year warehousing and distribution contract, increasing the volume of products that will be handled by Fowler Welch by 50%. A combination of improved productivity and reconfigured warehousing space helped Fowler Welch improve its profit margin in the six months ending 30 September. While parent Dart Group did not break down the profit performance of its transport and distribution arm, it did reveal that turnover for the period rose 8% year-on-year to £80.3m (2011 H1: £74.2m). Last week, Dart Group revealed a near to 13% pre-tax profit rise for its transport operation, Fowler Welch. Off the back of this, which saw profit climb from £3.9m to £4.4m for the year ended 31 March 2013 at Fowler Welch, its group share price has continued to move northwards, today leaping to £2.40, up from £2.14 last week.
