All staff jobs at a Thurrock-based haulage firm have been saved after it entered administration and was then sold. West of Scotland Heavy Haulage (WSHH) failed because Police Scotland withdrew its escort service, effectively stopping the wind turbine transport firm from completing its contracts.
An 11th hour plea by the new owners of Aspray Transport, days before it went into administration last month, that its operating licences be surrendered rather than revoked, to avoid “negative connotations”, was rejected by the traffic commissioner who ruled that it “must have been abundantly clear” during due diligence that the firm had insufficient funds to qualify for the eight licences.
Palletways has worked quickly to fill a gap in its coverage left by Cambridgeshire operator Heathcliff Haulage, which went into administration in January.
