Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is looking to encourage adoption of Clocs across the region, and will be holding an event on the morning of 20 October to highlight the safety benefits of the scheme.
Visitors will be able to hear from a range of speakers from construction, vehicle manufacturing and safety backgrounds, as well as take part in an Exchanging Places session to learn the difference between HGVs with and without Clocs-required equipment.
Reducing work-related road risk is a key component within TfGM’s Freight and Logistics Strategy, launched in July, which aims to improve vehicle safety, driver training and construction logistics.
To help reduce collisions between HGVs and cyclists, TfGM has already installed Trixi safety mirrors at key road junctions to give drivers better visibility of cyclists caught in a blind spot, as well as placing advanced stop lines for cyclists to position themselves ahead of traffic.
TfGM’s strategy aims for a short-term goal of promoting and encouraging membership of Fors, or an equivalent standard, to enable alignment with the requirements of Clocs.
Its long-term aim is to "encourage local operators to embed national standards within their activities through industry engagement".
TfGM will be partnering with construction firm Mace for the event later this month, which is a Clocs champion itself, promoting the adoption of the scheme across its supply chain.
Mace is currently developing the new University of Manchester Alliance Business School on Oxford Road, Manchester.
