TfL will be showcasing the achievements of the Clocs initiative at an event to be held in London this week.
Launched three years ago, Clocs has encouraged a step change in the way the construction sector prioritises road risk alongside site safety, and has helped bring a new generation of “safer”, urban trucks and equipment to market.
Speaking ahead of the fifth Clocs progress event, Glen Davies, freight & fleet programme manager at TfL, told Freightinthecity.com he is keen to demonstrate how far truck design has come in helping to prevent collisions between HGVs and vulnerable road users in urban areas.
“The main thing we are pleased about is that more manufacturers have now picked up the gauntlet and have solutions,” said Davies.
“We are nearly three years down the line with this initiative and we’ve had fantastic engagement with the industry. They’ve really picked up the issue and owned it.”
Davies said the scheme has also gathered real momentum across the whole of the UK, even internationally, as major contractors and operators have adopted Clocs’ values across their entire supply chains, not just those operations in London.
He now encouraged other major cities to make a proactive move in adopting Clocs.
The fifth Clocs progress event is due to take place on 23 March at London’s ExCeL with free registration found at clocsevent.com/clocs2016/exhibition.
It will feature a 20-strong line-up of safer, urban trucks available from manufacturers including Daf Trucks, Dennis Eagle, Mitsubishi Fuso-Canter, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, MAN, Scania and Iveco.
