Highways maintenance contractor Ringway has invested in a third Mercedes-Benz Econic gully emptier for its existing fleet.

With improved safety features including a larger and lower windscreen and a floor-to-ceiling passenger side door, this provides the driver with 180º visibility and the ability to spot low-level objects ahead.

A lowered two-step entry access into the cab also helps reduce trips and falls when entering or leaving the cab. To accompany this, the new style cab also has a flat floor allowing the driver to leave the vehicle from the inward opening door on the passenger side, protecting both driver and other road users.

Further safety features include a new side-scan system that is built into the vehicle and gives a warning sound when an object is detected on the nearside of the vehicle.

Neil Withers, Ringway plant & fleet technical manager, said: “We are delighted to purchase another Econic gully emptier to add to our fleet with its improved technology and increased safety features. Since we first began operating the Econic gully emptier over two years ago, we have had only positive feedback from drivers especially towards the increased visibility from inside the vehicle.”
