Frozen food specialist Yearsley Logistics is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The firm, which is now based in Heywood, Lancashire, started in 1955 on a farm in Rochdale. Bernard Matthews has appointed Norbert Dentressangle (ND) to manage national storage and distribution for its frozen and fresh products. ND will supply Norfolk-based Bernard Matthews Farms with frozen and chilled consolidation services at shared cold stores in Easton, Norfolk and Lowestoft, Suffolk – sites ND says it has invested £1.5m in. The recent heatwave has seen massive spikes in retail volumes for chilled and frozen goods, according to DHL Supply Chain. The UK’s largest logistics firm said the hot weather in July had seen demand for bottled water rise by 45% and soft drink volume increase by 35%.
NFT is to venture south with the opening of a major warehouse as it eyes a larger slice of the £34bn of food imports to the UK. It hopes the move will help increase its annual turnover from £170m to £250m within four years.
