The Unite union has accused Tesco of getting Stobart Group “to do its dirty work” for it, after the 183 drivers based at the operator’s Doncaster DC were told they faced possible redundancy. Tesco has taken delivery of 25 new refrigerated longer semi-trailers in order to help it achieve its aim of reducing carbon emissions. It will operate the new trailers from its RDCs in Avonmouth, Livingston and Peterborough, and each can carry six more cages than a standard 13.6m trailer. Tesco fleet engineering manager Cliff Smith said: “That represents an increase in productivity of more than 13%, so the potential benefits in terms of reduced vehicle movements and lower emissions are obvious.” […]
