Dave-Clarkson

DBL Logistics managing director David Clarkson has been appointed as a non-executive director of United Pallet Network (UPN).

Clarkson, 46, will join the UPN board in an advisory capacity, acting as a regional representative for fellow companies within the national network.

Sheffield-based DBL Logistics is a founding member of UPN and was last year named the pallet network’s Sales Depot of the Year and Depots’ Depot of the Year in its annual awards ceremony.

Clarkson, who will remain as managing director at DBL Logistics, said: “It’s a fantastic honour to join the UPN board and act as a voice of the network to the directors.

“As a founding member of UPN, I have been involved with the company for more than 12 years. I’m looking forward to working even closer with the management team to help continue the success UPN has enjoyed in recent years."

He added that he wanted to be a sounding board for the network and support in an advisory capacity on the future direction of UPN, "which continues to expand, delivering more consignments to more locations than ever before".

UPN, established in 2001, has a national network of more than 70 member depots which collects and delivers freight from across the UK and Europe, before transporting it to a central hub in Staffordshire.

Martyn Chapman, UPN founder and chairman, added: “We are delighted that Dave has accepted our invitation to join the UPN board as a non-executive director. He will work closely with our other non-executive directors, Leanne Urwin and Neil Chappelow.

“Their collective knowledge and expertise of the transport industry along with that of the executive directors will allow UPN to continue to be at the forefront of pallet networks."

Family-run DBL Logistics has seen turnover grow to £3m in the last year and aims to double this by 2018 following the expansion into its new £2m Huntsman Depot on Tinsley Park Road in Sheffield last year.
