Yusen Logistics has begun work on a new contract with SMR Automotive Mirrors UK involving sub-assembly and delivery of door mirrors to Jaguar’s XK and F-Type assembly line. The operation, which began in February, requires daily collections of product five days a week from SMR’s Portsmouth manufacturing facility. Coventry-based automotive logistics provider Acumen Automotive Logistics has won a three-year contact with BMW Group UK for the delivery of finished vehicles to dealers.
Yusen Logistics has begun trading out of its specialist automotive centre in Tamworth, building on volumes out of its operation at Burnaston, near Derby. The 81,000ft² site, adjacent to the M42, offers decanting, crossdocking, stockholding and sequencing operations from first and second tier automotive parts manufacturers serving Yusen’s major car manufacturing clients. Crewe, Cheshire-based Brit European Transport made a dramatic return to profit during 2011, recording a pre-tax profit of £334,000 compared to pre-tax loss of £453,000 the previous year. Turnover in the year to 31 December rose 20% from £20m to £24m, all but £2m of which was generated in the UK.
