National Grid has extended and renewed its contract with DHL for four years. The new element of the contract will see DHL manage warehouses in Birmingham and Didcot, Oxfordshire, which store equipment needed to maintain and construct National Grid’s gas and electricity network. Bardon, Leicestershire-based Jigsaw has extended its distribution contract with Grace Foods. The logistics network, made up of 10 haulage partners with the majority share owned by CM Downton, improved the consistency of deliveries since it took over transport for Grace from an in-house operation in 2009. Fakenham, Norfolk haulier Jack Richards & Son has reported a 56% rise in pre-tax profit, and £2.3m rise in turnover, for the year ending 31 May 2012. The firm said the increase was down to a number of factors, including a slight hardening in rates, successful efforts to improve fuel consumption, a fortuitously-timed Christmas break and a number of new contracts that helped cut empty running.
