DHL Supply Chain is to spend £8.8m on a new shared user hub at Heathrow airport for its airline catering contracts. DHL Supply Chain said its decision to close its Tradeteam depot in Sheffield and downgrade the site at Ebbw Vale, South Wales with the loss of more than 250 jobs was taken to protect the long-term future of the business and avoid having to make further redundancies in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
DHL Supply Chain has taken delivery of the first of 700 Volvo trucks, including 550 FH tractor units, which it said are the most efficient available on the market.
The threat of a tanker driver strike could now be averted, as the Unite union and fuel distribution companies reach agreement over a new set of proposals. Unite has also been given an extended industrial action mandate of 21 May to allow it time to discuss the new proposals with its 1,200 tanker driver members.
