Abbey Logistics has hired the former MD of Suttons Group ahead of the start of its major new contract with British Sugar.
Andrew Palmer was MD of Suttons Group for eight years, before retiring in early 2013. He joins Abbey Logistics as a non-executive director.
Abbey Logistics MD Steve Granite said: “Andrew has an outstanding record as a business leader. He brings valuable experience of leading companies during periods of growth and I know he will provide a substantial contribution to the Abbey Group board during such an exciting period in the company’s history."
Abbey has also hired former Suttons marketing manager Michael Fox, who will take on responsibility for the planning and management of the operator’s marketing strategies.
Granite said: “I’m proud of what we have achieved with the Abbey brand and Michael’s appointment marks our commitment to further growth and development.”
Last month Abbey announced it had picked up the British Sugar contract, formally held by Suttons' tankers division for eight years. It begins work on the contract in a fortnight.
Suttons walked away from the contract to focus on its core operation in the hazardous chemicals, gases and fuels sectors.
Abbey Logistics said it had also hired a new technical director, but was unable to disclose further information at the time of publication. It is on the lookout for a new operations director.
