Gefco has won a contract with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), covering the moment of Range Rovers across the UK.
The contract was awarded after JLR carried out a review of its domestic logistics providers. It did not disclose which operator held the contract before.
The deal, which Gefco claims will increase its market share in the automotive sector, covers the movement of Range Rovers from its UK production plants to storage compounds and ports.
Following the win, the operator is to boost its car transporter fleet by putting into operation vehicles designed specifically for JLR’s requirements. The new fleet will include MAN tractor units and Lohr car transporter trailers, all of which will be fitted with Qualcomm tracking systems to improve route planning.
Gefco UK’s finished vehicle logistics director John Stocker said: “We are delighted to be building on our association with Jaguar Land Rover. As a company, Gefco is committed to providing our customers with the most efficient, cost effective and sustainable services, tailored to meet business needs."
In May Northampton-based Acumen Logistics revealed it had signed a three year contract to deliver finished Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles for both export markets and dealerships across the south of England and Wales.
