City Link is investing in automated sortation at its Coventry hub, which it hopes will increase throughput by 50% and increase capacity for busy periods.
The system will take up around a quarter of the operator’s 150,000ft² national hub and will operate alongside its manual sort and cross-docking operations, which are used for its core heavier and bulky freight volumes.
Installation of the equipment, supplied by Caljan Rite Hite, will begin this month and is hoped to be in operation in early July.
It has been specified to sort parcels of up to 1.5m in length.
Processing and linehaul director Bob Powner said: “Not only will it enable us to further improve the security and reliability we provide to our customers on a daily basis, but it will also provide us with flexible additional capacity at peak periods.”
