Parcel carrier network APC Overnight has added four new double-deck longer semi-trailers to its fleet.

The 15.25m Cartwright trailers, which APC hopes will increase load carrying capacity by 15%, have been added to its trunking operation on top of its existing fleet. It is also considering increasing its fleet of standard length double-deckers.

Head of operations Brian McCarthy said APC will consider whether the use of the trailers after the trial will warrant a reduction in vehicles on the road, along with its carbon footprint.

McCarthy said: “We were keen to participate in the trial to find out first hand whether the extended trailers will have a positive impact on the business long term. The increased capacity on board will be of huge benefit to the trunking network.”

Earlier this month, APC Overnight member Delivered revealed it had taken a delivery of five new Citroën Relay vans. It also said APC was in talks with Citroën about supplying vans to the rest of the network.
