Yusen Logistics warehouse workers stage week-long strike over pay

Warehouse workers at Yusen Logistics have downed tools for a week in a row over the company’s pay deal, according to the United Road Transport Union (URTU).

The union said the industrial action was in relation to a long-running trade dispute, which began in early 2022 when it sought formal recognition with the logistics company at the Grange Park site in Northamptonshire.

URTU claimed Yusen implemented a pay deal without its agreement and so it raised a collective grievance demanding an improvement.

Despite further meetings, including with Yusen MD David Goldsborough and also conciliatory service ACAS stepping in, URTU claimed the company would not put forward any improvement on the pay deal.

It added that its members at the site were currently paid £10.27 per hour and it wanted this boosted to help them deal with “the crippling effects of high inflation” and survive the current cost of living crisis.

However, Yusen said it “maintained open communications channels as part of ongoing negotiations” with the union.

A spokeswoman said: “We are not able to comment on the specifics of our negotiations.

“This proposed action has been taken because of a ballot of a minority of the workforce at one single location.

“We have not been informed of any other ballots or notice of industrial action at any other Yusen Logistics location at this time,” she added.
