The Widdowson Group has been appointed as the Midlands logistics partner for Waitrose, the first time a third party has been selected by the supermarket to cover this region of the country.
Waitrose has previously only nominated carriers to assist with distribution work in the North and South of the UK.The contract will see Widdowson's move full and groupage loads to Waitrose DCs in Aylesford, Bardon, Bracknell and Milton Keynes.
Full loads will be taken directly to the supermarket’s DCs, while smaller loads will be consolidated at one of Widdowson’s Leiceseter warehouses, before being transferred to a Waitrose hub for an onward groupage journey.
John Hawksworth, Widdowson's commercial director, says: "Working with Waitrose is a significant achievement for the group. We are proud to provide a solution that is not only accurate and on time, but also economically viable."
Widdowson's secured a contract with French firm Magimix last month to handle the kitchen appliance manufacturer’s warehousing and distribution across the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
