TNT Post is continuing to increase its final-mile delivery coverage, making its first official deliveries in Liverpool today.

The expansion follows a funding deal that parent company Post NL signed with private equity investment firm LDC at the beginning of the year to help support the roll-out of the service.

The first deliveries in the city began today (26 March).  The service will see the operator delivering to both businesses and consumers in the L postcode area every other day from Monday to Saturday.

TNT Post launched the service in Liverpool on a trial basis more than two years ago. It already runs final mile delivery services in  London and covers the M postcode across central and Greater Manchester. It intends to roll it out across the UK and create a service that will rival Royal Mail's.

A spokesman said the company will be using its existing transport operation in Liverpool. It has taken on 500 final-mile delivery staff to support the operation.

The company has hired 3,000 more people over the last two years.

Last year TNT Post converted 80 of its vehicles to dual-fuel- the first alternative-fuelled vehicles in its fleet.
