Llanelli-based Owens Group has restructured its senior leadership team.

MD Huw Owen has taken up the new role of group chairman and appointed his eldest son Ian as his successor.

Ian has worked in virtually all areas of the business, the company said, but most recently as group operations director.

Reporting to Ian and making up the rest of the team are Doug Jeffery, newly appointed group operations director, and Gavin Walker, group finance director.

Commercial director Eurof Owen will continue in his role, working alongside Huw and Ian.

The news comes a month after the company acquired Celtic Couriers Holdings Limited (CC) for an undisclosed sum.

The Palletforce member, which provides transport, warehousing and distribution services and runs a fleet of over a 1,000 vehicles, said the purchase was driven by plans to further expand its services in South Wales and to meet “significant” growth.

It added that the deal will complement its express delivery and pallet network services.

Commenting on the leadership restructure, Huw Owen said: “It gave me great pleasure to ask Ian to succeed me and build on our strong family values and customer centric approach to business. Having worked alongside Ian for over 30 years I know he is the right man to lead Owens Group in the next phase of its development and growth.”

Added Ian Owen: “It was with surprise but also great pride that I received this offer, but I wholeheartedly and immediately accepted and am exceptionally proud of the faith placed in me and the senior leadership team. I have big shoes to fill and will be leaning on my father’s knowledge and experience as you would expect. My focus will be on continuing to improve the business, exploit new opportunities, strengthen the already great customer relationships and further engage with colleagues across the whole group.”
