HGV drivers are being warned that the M20 will be closed overnight for four nights this week in preparation for the activation of the Operation Brock contraflow system, which is being rolled out to prevent delays to and from Dover during Christmas peak traffic.
National Highways has announced that parts of the M20 will be closed, with fully signed diversion routes in place during the closures, at the following times:
9pm Wednesday 7 Dec to 6am Thursday 8 Dec – coastbound M20 between J 7 to 9
9pm Thursday 8 Dec to 6am Friday 9 Dec – London bound M20 between J 9 to 8
9pm Friday 9 Dec to 6am Saturday 10 Dec – coastbound M20 between J 7 to 9
9pm Sunday 11 Dec to 6am Monday 12 Dec – London bound M20 between J 9-8 and coastbound M20 between J 7-9.
The M20 will reopen at 6am on Monday 12 December with the contraflow in place. National Highways is warning drivers to be aware that once the contraflow barrier is in place, all HGVs heading for the Port of Dover or Eurotunnel must follow the signs to join Operation Brock at M20 junction 8.

Any EU-bound HGVs not complying with signage and trying to use another route to Eurotunnel or the Port of Dover risk a fine of £300 and will also be sent to the back of the queue by police or enforcement agents.
It is also warning that any HGVs trying to bypass the M20 by using the M2/A2 at Brenley Corner will be turned back.
All other coast bound traffic, including local freight and car drivers heading for the continent, should follow the signs and cross over to enter the contraflow on the M20, London bound carriageway.
HGV drivers planning to use Eurotunnel and the Port of Dover are being advised to plan their journeys and check with the travel operator before setting out.
With severe weather alerts being issued, the National Highways is also warning drivers to plan their journeys, check with ferry operators and Eurotunnel for any delays and ensure they are prepared for hold ups, with plenty of fuel, warm clothes, and supplies of food and drink.
