Bartrums has posted a combined turnover of £26.7m for its road services and haulage and storage arms, down on the previous year’s results, but pre-tax profit showed an improvement.
For the year ending 31 December 2015, the Eye, Suffolk, business made a total pre-tax profit of £1.8m, up 8.5% on 2014.
Despite an increase in sales in its haulage and storage business, its road services arm saw a 5.5% reduction to £7.8m, which led to an overall fall in turnover.
Its report said that it had closed a depot in Essex during 2014, as well as reduced the area of coverage for a pallet network.
It added: “During the year the company also suffered a significant bad debt which also resulted in a subsequent loss of income from that customer.
“The directors invested in acquiring and building further warehouse capacity during the year.
“In light of the above the directors are pleased with the results for the year and believe the company is well placed for the foreseeable future.”
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
