RJ Murray & Son has won a three-year contract with solar panel firm Global Heat Source, worth £1.2m a year.

The new operation will be based at pallet network Pall-Ex’s northern hub in Carlisle, which is run by RJ Murray, and is expected to boost freight volumes by around 500 pallets per week.

Pallets – each carrying a complete solar panel kit – will be assembled on site at Carlisle before distribution to local depots, where they will be collected directly by installation engineers, which the pallet network said reduces unnecessary road miles.

The deal will add around £700,000 in additional revenue to Pall-Ex's annual network revenue.

Steve Murray, MD at RJ Murray, said: “This is a milestone in the development of both RJ Murray and the Pall-Ex northern hub. To be chosen as the logistics provider for this project is testament to the efficiency of our operation.”

Newly appointed Pall-Ex Group UK MD Cris Stephenson added: "We are very pleased that our member has secured such a key contract which will demonstrate the efficiency of our northern hub."
