Europa Worldwide Logistics has opened a 2,500 ft² site near Leeds as demand for European imports and exports in the region grow.

The site opened on 28 October and is located at Calder Park, close to junction 39 of the M1. It will use local operators to collect and deliver to and from West Yorkshire on its behalf.

Movements between the site and Europa’s 155,000 ft² Northern hub in Birmingham, which opened last year, will be made every night.

The operator also plans to open another East Midlands site in 2014, as well as add a number of additional routes by the end of this year.

MD Andrew Baxter, who acquired Europa Worldwide Group in August, said: “As a national operator is it vital that we have a sales and distribution presence in all of the key areas of the country and particularly those showing growth as we slowly emerge from recession.  We‘re delighted to have started our network expansion in Leeds and to be investing in this important area.”

Branch manager Miles O’Donnell, who joined Europa to head-up the new site in October, said the firm will be launching a recruitment drive for the site in the new year.

Earlier this year the company launched its first regular service to and from Morocco.
