Leicester-based Premier Logistics has added a second southern site to its rapidly growing operation.
The operator, which revealed plans to leave its Meridian Business Park home last month for bigger premises, has acquired the business and assets of collapsed haulier Cobley Transport (Reading).
The deal for the Thatcham depot of Cobley Transport (Reading) safeguards around 30 jobs and provides Premier with a second southern staging post with access to the M4 (and M40 corridor).
It comes after its purchase last month of collapsed Bill Chippington Haulage’s St Albans site, which is served by the M1.
“It’s where we want to be,” said Lee Christopher, MD of Premier Logistics. “This was too good an opportunity to let it pass by,” he added.
Christopher added that he hoped to open more new depots next year, with the North West and North East previously outlined as targets.
As a result of the deal, Premier Logistics, has assumed the RG postcode for Palletways that Cobley Transport (Reading) previously handled.
The company is also a long standing Pall-Ex network member. In response, Steve Reed, network development director at Pall-Ex, said: “This is quite a complex situation that has risen quickly and we are currently talking to Premier Logistics to agree a mutually acceptable way forward.”
Premier Logistics is currently working towards an ambitious plan to double its £10m annual turnover.
