Gloucestershire-based Howard Tenens is converting 35 of its LGVs into dual-fuel vehicles to reduce its carbon footprint.
The company, which received a £1.26m funding boost from the Department for Transport last year to help install the fuel systems, will convert a selection of 4x2 and 6x2 trucks to run on a mix of diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The first converted truck is expected to be completed at the end of this month, with all 35 hoped to be ready by September.
It has chosen dual-fuel system firm Prins Autogas UK to convert the vehicles, after it recently completed an eight month trial of two LGVs which ran on the system, seeing CO2 emission reductions of up to 50%.
Howard Tenens group CRS director Catherine Crouch said: “We chose them because their technology is well engineered, delivering reliability and simplicity of installation. We were very impressed with the performance of the vehicles which gives us great confidence for the future.”
Prins Autogas UK claims the system can replace up to 55% of diesel with CNG and 35% with LNG.
