Howard Tenens wins two year Costa Express contract

Howard Tenens has revealed details of the two year contract it won with self service coffee firm Costa Express in January.

The contract covers collection of products from the supplier into Howard Tenens’ Andover hub in Hampshire, as well as delivery of palletised loads to six satellite depots in Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, Boston in Lincolnshire, Belshill in Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Sunbury-on-Thames in south west London.

The contract also includes next day delivery of coffee beans, flavoured syrups, stirrers, cups and napkins to 2,500 Costa Express’ customers across the UK, using its van fleet.

The first month saw the operator make around 8,800 deliveries on behalf of the coffee company, amounting to nearly 30,000 cases of stock.

Howard Tenens general manager Matt Whitwell said: “We are working closely with the Costa Express supply chain team to ensure we not only deliver high levels of service on this contract, but we also identify other potential efficiencies in stock control and forecasting.  In the first week delivery volumes doubled and we were able to step up to meet this challenge.”

The operator also hopes to reduce Costa Express’ carbon footprint by over 73,000kg within the first year, as the majority of its articulated fleet runs on dual fuel and some of its van fleet uses biomethane gas.

Last month Costa Express parent company Whitbread renewed its contract with Kuehne + Nagel, in a deal that will see it delivery to Costa Coffee stores.
