Yusen Logistics is to spend some £9m upgrading its fleet and IT systems  after merging its road transport operations with its  air and sea freight forwarding businesses last year.

Some £7m will be spent on a combination of vehicles and mechanical handling equipment as well as trailers including pillar-less tri-axles with sliding suzies, and its Department for Transport allocation of five 15.65m trailers.

The IT investment will see £2.2m spent on infrastructure and its transport management software.

MD Ian Veitch, said: “Further to the company’s merger last year enabling us to offer comprehensive air, ocean and contract logistics services and with significant growth now underway, the time was right to make a significant investment in the UK business to move it forward in line with the demands of the future.”
