Yodel has announced its plans for ensuring deliveries are handled effectively throughout the busy Olympic Games period this summer.
The parcel firm's contingency plans include informing customers of those postcodes most likely to experience delays; the creation of a dedicated 'Olympics Village HQ' at Yodel's Vauxhall depot in central London; as well as daily updates for clients about congestion, disruption and hotspots.
Yodel has been liaising with Transport for London and Olympics officials for more than a year now, to help it analyse affected routes and the impact on its operation.
The contingency planning is for a 120-day period, which incorporates the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Olympic torch relay route and the Games themselves, with trial runs being carried out at the moment.
As well looking at its London deliveries, Yodel has also planned for the 11 sporting venues outside of the capital and the torch relay route, which will pass within 10 miles of 95% of the population.
Marija Simovic, chief operating officer at Yodel, says: “There is a great deal of excitement in the run up to the Games and we’ve been planning well in advance to ensure that our deliveries run smoothly for our clients and their customers throughout this period.”
