Wincanton moved record volumes of groceries from one of its DCs to meet a 25% increase in demand as snow fell across the UK.
The north England DC increased the shift lengths for its warehouse staff and put additional trailers on the contraxt to meet the demands of shoppers during the recent cold weather.
The trailers were pre-loaded to ensure that the turnover of vehicles was maximised while Wincanton's order management team also worked longer hours to ensure that direct communication with customers was maintainted.
Contingency planning also paid off for Wincanton, which worked closely with the local council to share the cost of clearing snow from the roads surrounding the DC. This created a clear route to and from the main roads.
