Wincanton has invested in 80 new Euro- 6 Renaults and Mercedes-Benz as part of its drive to increase efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of its operations.
It has also bought 276 curtain-sided trailers, which adhere to the load restraint EN12642 XL accreditation.
The company says the vehicles, which include Mercedes-Benz Actros 2543s and Renault series 460.26s, all at 6x2, will cut particulate emissions by 66% and nitrogen oxide by 80% compared to their predecessors.
The XL-rated trailers – made up of SDC and Lawrence David 13.6m length vehicles - incorporate NWE strapping, minimising the risk of side-shift and increasing safety of the units on the road and at delivery sites.
The investment follows the addition of 150 vehicles for its container fleet in 2013.
“This is a significant expansion of our fleet and reflects the growth that Wincanton has experienced in the past year,” said technical services director Dave Rowlands.
Wincanton has just been re-accredited with Fors bronze.
