Westfield shopping centre access will be severely restricted this weekend as the athletics programme of London 2012 starts.

Organisers are expecting more than 200,000 Olympic spectators and accredited workforce each day, which will make the Stratford area exceptionally busy.

It also means that Westfield Stratford City will only be accessible to accredited operators and Games ticket holders between 10.30am and 5pm this Friday (3 August) and Saturday (4 August).

Peter Hendy, London's transport commissioner, says: "Westfield Stratford City may not be open to shoppers without a ticket during these times but London has a rich and vast array of other attractions to offer during the Games.

"I encourage everyone to enjoy the theaters, restaurants, shops, free concerts, live sites and attractions and to continue to use GetAheadoftheGames.com to plan your journeys."
