DHL Tradeteam saw its revenue and profit fall in 2011 as customers’ thirst for drinking in pubs, clubs and restaurants diminished.
For the 12 months ending 31 December 2011 turnover at the drinks distributor fell to £160.3m (2010: £172.2m), while pre-tax profit also fell from £12m to £11.1m.
A spokeswoman for DHL says: “Tradeteam continues to face challenging market conditions as pubs continue to close, and overall on-trade volumes continue to decline.
"As a result Tradeteam took the decision at the end of 2011 to close its Midlands RDC and provided for this cost in its 2011 financial year.”
In the same year DHL Tradeteam lost the re-tender for its primary logistics partner contract with Stella Artois and Beck’s brewer InBev UK to a combination of KN Drinks Logistics (KNDL), Downton and Hoyer.
However it also won a six-year contract to provide supply chain services to Whitbread and a three-year contract with Bibendum Wine.
