Trailer and truck hire specialist TIP is celebrating its Mechanic Academy gaining Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation from the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE).

This is the latest landmark event for the TIP Mechanic Academy which was launched in the autumn of 2023, to attract new talent to the trailer mechanic industry and address the lack of a formal training course or qualification dedicated to trailer mechanic skills.

Trainees at the groundbreaking academy in Nuneaton become TIP certified trailer mechanics in nine months instead of the standard three to four years for heavy vehicle certification. They also receive a full package of salary and benefits relevant to their experience level, when they join.

Last spring, 10 students graduated from the Academy and are continuing their training at TIP’s workshops across the UK.

The academy’s new CPD accreditation takes effect immediately, which will see students currently enrolled in the trailer mechanic training programme receiving CPD certification on completing their studies.

CPD accreditation is widely recognised across industries and is given to a course or training programme that demonstrates professional excellence for learning. It encourages individuals to continuously develop their skills, stay up to date with industry advancements and maintain high professional standards.

Tip said the accreditation will not only help to boost students’ careers and give them the skills to adapt to changes within the industry, but also gives TIP the benefits of having a workforce that meets industry-recognised qualifications and maintains a commitment to ongoing professional development.

“It reflects our dedication to upskilling the next generation of trailer mechanics, ensuring they meet the highest standards. We are excited to continue growing our programme and equipping our students with the knowledge and expertise needed for long-term success.”

Robin Bates, SOE membership and professional standards lead, said: “This approval highlights TIP Group’s commitment to providing high-quality professional development that aligns with industry standards.

“The TIP Mechanic Academy is a well-structured training initiative that delivers essential learning outcomes in a safe and controlled environment.

“We’ve had the opportunity to observe the classes and interact with those involved, and it’s clear that the programme effectively builds technical skills and lays a solid foundation for career progression.

“The CPD approval further confirms that the TIP Mechanic Academy is an exemplary programme, combining innovation with industry needs through hands-on training, mentorship, and comprehensive manuals that create a clear pathway for individuals to develop into skilled mechanics.”
