International waste management company PreZero has ordered 35 battery-electric trucks from Volvo Trucks, to be deployed in Sweden.

The order includes 24 Volvo FM Low Entry trucks — developed specifically for electric operation — alongside ten Volvo FM Electric and one Volvo FL Electric.

According to Volvo Trucks, this represents the largest electric truck order to date in the Swedish recycling sector.

The trucks will operate in Stockholm and surrounding areas, supported by charging infrastructure investments at PreZero’s local depots.

The Volvo FM Low Entry is designed for urban operations such as waste collection and distribution, offering enhanced visibility and a low-entry cab layout. It can be adapted for various city-based applications including construction and logistics. All trucks in the order will feature Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) and camera-equipped side mirrors, intended to reduce driver strain and improve visibility in dense traffic.

“We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero puts in Volvo Trucks with this order for more battery-electric trucks from us,” said Stefan Strand, MD of Volvo Trucks Sweden. “The order for 35 electric trucks is the largest to date in the recycling industry in Sweden. PreZero is truly leading the way by converting its transport to zero exhaust emissions.”

PreZero, part of Germany’s Schwarz Group (owner of Lidl and Kaufland), operates waste management services across Europe and North America. Its Swedish branch first introduced a Volvo electric truck in 2022.

Battery-electric trucks are expected to reduce noise levels in residential areas, according to Volvo Trucks, in addition to producing no exhaust emissions.

“We feel that Volvo Trucks is at the forefront when it comes to innovative development in safety and the environment,” said Mårten Widlund, chief executive of PreZero. “Volvo’s high quality and extensive service network also give us security in our production, which is extremely important to us.”

The Volvo FM Electric, also included in the order, recently received five stars in Euro NCAP’s first-ever truck safety assessment and was awarded the City Safe award.
