Suttons is making progress expanding its Widnes site following significant growth of its tankers and international businesses.

It said its £1.5m investment, which included acquiring an additional one-and-a-half acres of land adjacent to its existing site, would ensure that operations continued to meet the safety standards and also provided room for future development.

The land has recently been levelled and surfaced, with drainage systems and lighting installed.

This has increased its trailer parking spaces by 55 and “significantly boosted our operational capabilities”, the company said.

“In addition to the site expansion, our international division has acquired two new high-capacity forklift trucks.

“These enable us to further maximise the capacity of our Widnes site.”

Chief executive John Sutton added: “This expansion represents a major milestone for Suttons.

“The investment in our Widnes site not only supports our current growth but also positions us for future success.”

In April, the company said it had spent £1.8m on 12 new acid tanks and the refurbishment of four anhydrous ammonia tanks, which would strengthen its long-term partnership with CF Fertilisers.
