Isle of Wight haulier Steve Porter Transport has spent £750,000 on 40 new trailers.
The renewed trailer fleet, which has been purchased on a replacement basis, will operate out of the firm’s Isle of Wight and Portsmouth and Southampton depots.
The company, which entered into a load and resource-sharing partnership with Meachers Global Logistics last autumn, operates a cross-Solent drop-trailer operation as preferred freight partner of Red Funnel.
It has 29 trucks and 60 trailers in its fleet, traditionally relying on sub-contractors during peak times to handle volume, something the Meachers tie-up partly addresses.
Half of the trailer order has been fulfilled by manufacturer BS Trailers, which will deliver the balance over the next three to four months.
