Temperature-controlled operator Solstor has taken 36 tractor units on contract hire from Ryder: a mixture of Dafs and Mercedes.
The majority will replace older vehicles, while the remaining 15 are additions to the fleet and will support growing demand for operator across the UK.
The order consists of a mix of Daf XFs and Mercedes-Benz units, all 6×2, and will operate out of Solstor’s sites in Peterborough and Dartford.
More than 40% of Solstor’s fleet of 160 trailers and 100 tractors are supplied by Ryder and are used to deliver to pack houses and regional DCs across the UK, clocking up a weekly average of 300 miles each.
Ryder has been supplying vehicles on contract hire to Solstor since 2008. The new deal extends the two parties' relationship by five years.
Solstor MD Graham Doe said: “Providing a reliable and dependable service is critical to our business. Ryder is a key partner in helping us maintain and grow our relationships with major retailers, providing flexible back up, support and extra resources in times of need.”
Tony Nuttall, Ryder's director of sales - south, said: "We’re delighted that Solstor has chosen to renew its contract hire agreement with Ryder and look forward to another five years of close collaboration, helping Solstor get the very best out of its fleet."
The operator also took 35 trailers from Hireco through a contract hire deal earlier this year.
