TfL is inviting operators to head to London’s Excel for the fifth Clocs progress exhibition taking place on 23 March.

This free one-day event will run from 10am to 3pm and will feature the latest safer vehicles on offer from leading manufacturers that provide improved driver visibility, which have been developed with input from the road freight sector.

Vehicles on display will all be fitted with a range of enhanced Clocs standard safety features to help boost the safety of vulnerable road users when used in built-up, urban environments.

Clocs was first launched in 2013 following TfL-commissioned research undertaken by the Transport Research Laboratory into why a disproportionate amount of cyclist fatalities in the capital involved construction HGVs.

The findings highlighted a lack of focus and understanding on work-related road risk from contractors; increased blind spots in vehicles specified for construction haulage compared with those used in general haulage; and the need for a common safety standard to be developed.

Three workstreams were set up to tackle the key issues and the scheme has rapidly gathered pace, with more than 200 Clocs members now ensuring a consistent safety approach across their fleet operations, and a national push seeing the initiative gaining momentum across the UK.

Testament to the scheme’s success is the fact that more than 20 vehicles will be on display at this year’s event, compared with 14 one year ago and only three in 2014.

Andy Salter, MD at Motor Transport's publisher Road Transport Media and Clocs progress event partner, said: “Anyone coming this year, that also attended last year, will clearly see the progress and the advancements that have been applied to these vehicles.”

The Clocs event is not limited to the construction sector and is open to any operator wanting to find out more about safer vehicle advancement or interested in becoming a Fors silver or gold member.
