Police in Surrey have shared dramatic footage of a bridge strike that also resulted in a van becoming stuck under an HGV.
The dashcam footage shows the lorry collide with the bridge in Epsom and then career into a nearby van, almost crushing it.
The video was shared by the roads policing unit on its Twitter feed after people initially blamed the van driver for the collision.
In a Tweet, the unit said: “For some reason, a lot of people automatically pointed the blame at the van driver.
“Hopefully this clears things up for them. Assume nothing. Believe no one. Confirm everything.”
A Surrey police spokeswoman said: “We were called following reports that an HGV lorry had become stuck after colliding with a railway bridge in Epsom around 3.40pm on Friday (21 May).
“The collision, which happened in East Street, also resulted in a delivery van becoming stuck under the lorry.
“Neither of the drivers were injured.
“Ambulance and fire crews were also in attendance, and Network Rail was contacted to ensure trains were stopped on safety grounds.
“The road was closed in both directions for several hours while both vehicles were recovered.”
St Albans-based Heverin Haulage, whose vehicle was involved in the incident, did not respond to requests for comment.
